Muppet Babies

   Home/Change Series

Muppet Babies was a kids show loosely based on a sequence in the movie Muppets Take Manhatten (in which Piggy imagines what it would've been like if she and Kermit had grown up together), running from 1984-1991 on CBS Saturday mornings.

Under care of a woman simply referred to as "Nanny," whose face you never saw, the baby versions of Kermit, Piggy, Scooter, Fozzie, Rowlf, Animal and Gonzo (with some appearances by Bunsen, Beaker, Bean Bunny, even "Uncles" Stantler and Waldorf in later seasons) let their imaginations run wild and got into many crazy adventures. A twin sister of Scooter, named Skeeter, was also added, likely to up the girl ratio on the show.

The show often used video clips to "enhance" what the babies were imagining, and a lot of it came from popular films of the time, such as Ghostbusters and Indiana Jones.

What some may not know is that the popularity of Muppet Babies spawned a trend for baby versions of popular characters such as Flintstone Kids, A Pup Named Scooby Doo, and more recently Baby Looney Tunes.

I don't really remember watching it as a kid and didn't re-discover it until around 1994, but I love it and will always cherish it as one of the best cartoons ever!
